Our Barbera is truly a great wine to pair with some of the more typical tomato based Italian fare with its lovely acid structure it compliments tomato based pasta and pizza perfectly. It also makes for a great counterpoint pairing partner with foods that have a good amount of fat like creamy cheeses, or even duck.

Aroma: The aroma profile here is pure Italian, and is truly reminiscent of wines that I drank when I was in Piemonte, Italy for 9 months, studying Northern Italian cooking and pastries. First out of the glass are aromas of tart pie cherries and dried cranberries. The subtle oak influence comes off as a bit of nutmeg spice.

Taste: The palate falls right in line with the aromatics. Some times with wine, it’s funny but the palate does not necessarily match the nose. With this wine they are truly identical. With the initial flavors of pie cherries and dried cranberries leading things off and the subtle spice notes of shaved nutmeg, carrying the finish. There is a wonderful balance of acidity and tannins that give the wine structure while not feeling astringent. 

Food Pairing: Alright, I want a fantastic wood fired pizza with this wine, topped with wild mushrooms, smoked paprika salami and caramelized onion. Another great pairing would be fluffy potato gnocchi with a braised wild boar sugo.
